Brandyn Burnette Weekly Blog (NYC Edition) Vol. 3

Yo BranFans! BB here…

As I promised in the previous blog, my goal with this weekly wrap-up is to give you all, my fans, a lil more inside look at the BB behind the music…

This week I’m gonna cover what I was up to last week, my new favorite band, and a lil bit of what i like to watch in between recording & traveling.

Last week kicked off with an amazing meeting with my stylist, Wouri Vice, and a trip over to the Buffalo Jeans HQ in New York City. The goal: get fitted for my upcoming debut music video. Great start to the week? I think so… Not only was Wouri an awesome dude with a tremendous knowledge and history in fashion (Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae- to name a few), but he took one listen to my music and we instantly connected on a creative level.

I spent the day with Wouri, my manager, and a film crew at Buffalo trying out some dope clothes from the new line in the David Bitton Collection. Not only are the clothes comfortable… but they’re Fresh as ever. As my first official foray into the fashion world, i can honestly say that Buffalo has made me a fan for life. Check out a little about David Bitton & his line at Buffalo here:

To all my homies out there wanting to stay fly- i recommend peeping out the new clothes online (www.buffalojeans.com/ <http://www.buffalojeans.com/> ). They’re reasonably priced and have a great selection of dope fitted Jackets, T’s, & jeans.

For all my ladies- i’d recommend Buffalo as well for the cool/casual but sexy/classy look. Their range and options are endless. Endless = sexy.

I wanna give a special thanks to Diane Alexander at Buffalo for having me come in and hooking me up with some amazing new clothes.. BB is a fan!

Carrying on to my new inspiring artist of the week…

Some of you may or may not know of a quirky lil band named Fun.

Ok, thats a joke, obviously everyone knows them and their mega #1 hit “We Are Young” ft. Janelle Monae. I know I’m a little late on this Fun. train, but nonetheless i’m a HUGE fan. Something about this band reminds me of the early Queen days… The lead singer, Nate Ruess, has a voice that has a similar distinction to the late, great Freddy Mercury. Their 20th century image, along without their catchy universal songs— not to mention that they are PHENOMENAL in all of their live videos— have quickly put them on my list of favorite bands of 2012. I’m very excited for them and happy to hear some true music return to the pop charts. I had no idea that all 3 members came from bands I used to listen to in the early 2000s… one in particular The Format. They’ve been at it hard over the years and for that, they’ve earned my respect.

My favorite song off of their album “Some Nights” is a song called “Carry On”. Im not even gonna explain why its great…instead watch the song Live and see for yourself:

Moving on to what I’m watching…

Let me start by telling you that I’ve never been one to watch a lot of Television. My adolescence was spent on the piano writing songs about the girl i was in love with in my science class (you know who you are haha). A couple weeks ago out in Long Island, however, my uncle introduced me to the world of Netflix. And when I say world, I mean the thousands upon thousands of TV shows and movies that are now accessible on my iPhone. I’m not a big movie buff (unless i’m going to a movie theatre), but I’ve been addicted to a few shows that I’ve missed throughout the years.

I’ve recently added 30 Rock into my morning workout… So as I’m doing my morning routine of pushups & sit ups (WINK), I laugh my ass off as well. And i’ll be honest, i’m gonna have to petition NBC if they take it off the air anytime soon ‘Cus without it i’m not sure how else I can start my day off right.

If you haven’t seen it, get with it. It’s the perfect balance of funny as hell and smart as shit.

I’ve also gotten pretty deep into “Lost”, despite what everyone says about it losing steam toward the end. My uncle got me hooked on it one day after a long session. I started off midway through season 3 and somehow my uncle was able to catch me up.. Which, if you’ve seen Lost before, you know that is no easy feat haha..  Im really hoping I won’t be disappointed at the end (which i hear is the case), because I’m finally starting to get into it. Whoever wrote that show must’ve been either bat-shit crazy, a genius, or somewhere in between. I don’t know..

I’m gonna take a brief moment to remind you that I’m not a nerd… Despite the fact that I’m a sucker for mind-bending shows like “Lost”. It’s just the perfect after-the-studio series to wind down to. I end up thinking so much at the end of each episode that my brain begs me to go to sleep. And if you know anything about artists, you’d know that we crave things that take our minds off of the industry. Can’t sleep? Watch “Lost” ‘til your brain explodes.

There you have it BranFans, that’s this week’s “Behind the BB” ;)

Tune in next week where i do it all over again.

Til then,

Stay Classy,

BB

Brandyn Burnette Weekly Blog (NYC Edition) Vol. 2

What’s  good BranFans!

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind…But  I’m finally settled back into the flow of the East Coast. I want to thank  you all for your support of my latest video in my cover series… Just 2  weeks and my rendition of “So Good” by B.o.B. has already surpassed 20,000  views! (Shout out to @bobatl for the post on his official blog &  facebook fanpage).  As a result of all the viral buzz, my official  YouTube channel has almost reached 1 Million overall channel views! I  can’t wait for you to see what I’ve got up my sleeve next… Let’s just  say there’s a lot more “BB TV” coming your computer very  soon.

Aside from all that, I’ve been in the studio working with  some incredible talents. Spent the last few weeks out in Long Island, NY  working with the ultra talented Jon Bellion (@jonbellion). My extended  family is from Long Island as well so I’ve been able to work hard in the  studio and spend some quality time with them in between. I’m definitely at  a place in my life where my family and my artistry have become two of the  most important things in world to me. It’s been a blast collaborating with  another writer/producer/artist like Jon. The kids a beast!

Anyway,  I wanted to dive a lil deeper into who I am on this blog… Im sure you  have some questions…Like what i’m watching, places i eat at, where I get  my swag from, who I’m dating, where i shop, songs I’m listening to etc.  Well, to all the lucky few tuning in this week here I go!

I’ll  start with music.

There’s been some amazing new artists popping up  on my radar that I’ve been seriously inspired by… Here’s 2 that may  surprise you:

There’s a 15 year old artist from the UK that goes by  ”Birdy”.
I’ve  heard a couple of her covers which turned me on to her own music. She’s  covered the likes of Ed Sheeran, Bon Iver, and the XX. Check out her  rendition of “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver on youtube and fall in love with  her innocence.

She’s  got a soul beyond her years and a mature voice that you’d never expect to  come out of a 15 year old girl.

I’ve also been jamming to Alex  Turner’s solo album “Submarine” all weekend long. You may remember him as  the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys. His solo project is a bit more  indie/folk than punk/rock like his band. My favorite song off the EP is  called “Piledriver Waltz”… It’s got a throwback reference to Elvis’ 1956  hit “Heartbreak Hotel” that any music buffs out there should thoroughly  enjoy. I’ve always been a fan of great songs with great lyrics and this  guy definitely gets a gold star next to his name in both  categories.

There’s something special about the approach of both of  these artists that I truly respect. Pop music these days isn’t only about  catchy melodies & universal lyrics. In my opinion, pop has become more  about unique artists with unique voices and a unique sound that can also  transcend beyond just the radio. The new generation of Pop artists come  with an online presence filled with dedicated fans. What is popular  nowadays has shifted from just Top 40 radio goons- to honest, heartfelt  singers that fans can truly resonate with. After all, we don’t just call  ourselves artists to sound fancy… We live and breathe our artistry in  all facets.

who  I’m dating…

Carlye Rae Jepsen and I have been hitting it off  lately…. You know, the “Call Me Maybe” chick. Every time I go out in New  York I hear her song come on and I smile knowing it was written about me.  Me being a certified player and all…

Haha! Nah nah I joke.
But  wouldn’t you like to know… Let’s just say my eyes are open. I’ve been  inspired lately………..

Thinking I’ll have to save this topic  for a later blog. My hands are falling asleep from typing so much.
;)  Much love!
cliffhanger  extraordinaire,
BB
